Ten (or so) of my favorite Adam Schlesinger songs

It’s mindbending to find out that someone whose career I had been appreciatively basking in for the past 20+ years, who’s only a decade older than me, is suddenly gone. I want to pay homage to one of our premier power-pop troubadours by celebrating the work he did to bring joy into my life. He wasn’t necessarily a chameleon — many of his songs have an unmistakably signature sound — but he excelled at finding nuances within his remit. In no particular order, some standouts:

  1. Valley Winter Song — So much of what Adam put out with his band Fountains of Wayne was known by its jangly, hook-filled electric guitars and arch lyrics. This is a much quieter song, but one that I still find myself singing snippets of from time to time.
